Erik Schark
One of the most notable things about this incredibly talented actor, besides the remarkable fact that he is double-jointed at both the shoulders and wrists, is his excellent sense of comedic timing. "One minute into his audition and I already knew he had the part," say director Evan Seplow. "He immediatly latched into what I wanted from the character of Ted". Currently, Erik can be
seen around the U.S. while he performs in the national tour of "Ted has been an interesting character jump for me," says Erik. The first big change was growing a beard for the role (which he was dying to get rid of the whole time!). "It's also one of the few roles I've had recently where I'm not singing and dancing". "We stepped aside and studied the character," says Evan Seplow. "Erik had an innate sense of how Ted should be and what I did as a director was to help Erik to know which choices were working and which one's weren't. The most important aspect was dynamics. Ted tends to flip attitudes at the drop of a hat. Like a little kid, one moment he's scared and then suddenly he's excited and happy and just as suddenly thoughtful. But within all of this, Erik and I wanted Ted to be honest and true. We laugh at him because of his natural charm. Looking at how the character developed I think the only other person for the role would have been James Stewart - do you think he would have been too old for the role?!? I'm glad we found Erik!!" |
